Ingredients
-
Our products are free from 128 of the most common allergens still found in even the leading “dermatologist recommended” and “sensitive friendly” skincare products today. By removing these allergens we have eliminated 99%+ of adverse skin reactions - including irritation, inflammation & sensitivity.
-
The National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance is the most trusted mark in eczema products. This seal guarantees a product has undergone rigorous testing and scientific review, in addition to being free from the skin irritants and allergens on the National Eczema Associations’ ingredient exclusion list.
Because Untoxicated is the very first skincare to completely eliminate all of the allergens known to trigger 99%+ of negative skin reactions, we were thrilled (but not surprised!) to be awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance™.
-
SkinSAFE was developed in partnership with the Mayo Clinic to provide a trusted standard for measuring whether a product is safe for sensitive skin, in absence of federal standards governing terms usage such as "for sensitive skin”, "hypoallergenic" and “fragrance-free".
Because Untoxicated is the very first skincare to completely eliminate all of the allergens known to trigger 99%+ of negative skin reactions, we were thrilled (but not surprised!) to be denoted best-in-class by SkinSAFE.
-
Our products only contain ingredients that have been scientifically studied & clinically proven as safe and effective for sensitive skin. A full list of the ingredients we use, the ingredients we ban, and why, is included within FAQ below!

We are the first skincare completely free from the commonly-used ingredients that trigger 99%+ of adverse skin reactions, including irritation, inflammation & sensitivity. What remains: A limited number of ingredients that have been clinically proven as safe and effective for even the most inflamed and delicate skin.
In the spirit of ‘no BS’ transparency, our complete list of ingredients is as follows (ordered alphabetically):
- Arginine: An essential amino acid that provides antioxidant and skin repair benefits.
- Carbomer: A texture enhancer that helps to thicken formulas and increases skin absorption of active ingredients.
- Ceramide AP (Ceramide 6): A skin identical ingredient, found in healthy skin, that aids in hydration, moisturization, skin barrier strength and suppleness.
- Ceramide EOP (Ceramide 1): A skin identical ingredient, found in healthy skin, that aids in hydration, moisturization, skin barrier strength and suppleness.
- Ceramide NP (Ceramide 3): A skin identical ingredient, found in healthy skin, that aids in hydration, moisturization, skin barrier strength and suppleness.
- Cetearyl olivate: An olive oil derivative that is used in formulas to emulsify water with oil, thus aiding in skin hydration.
- Di/sodium cocoyl glutamate: A coconut derivative that provides mild skin cleansing and surfactant properties.
- Dimethicone: A polymer of oxygen and silica (a naturally occurring mineral) that helps to reduce moisture loss while retaining skin breathability and air permeability.
- Glycerin: A natural component of healthy skin that acts as a humectant to retain moisture.
- Glycolipids: A natural conditioning agent that acts similar to ceramides to increase skin moisture content.
- Petrolatum: An occlusive that creates a physical barrier on top of the skin to seal in moisture and prevent water loss.
- Phenoxyethanol: A broad spectrum preservative that keeps bacteria and fungi from growing in skincare.
- Sodium hyaluronate: The salt form of hyaluronic acid - which is bioavailable and thus more easily absorbed into skin - that acts as a very effective humectant to retain moisture.
- Sorbitan olivate: An olive oil and sorbitol (sugar) derivative that is used in formulas to bind together oil with water, thus aiding in skin hydration.
- Xanthan gum: A food grade thickener that is used to help keep formulas stable over time.

Yes, all Untoxicated products are hypoallergenic.
However, it is important to understand that “hypoallergenic” means “less likely to cause an allergic reaction” - which is not the same as being completely free from allergy and sensitivity triggers.
Since "hypoallergenic" is not a legally regulated term, each manufacturer can determine what “less likely to cause a reaction” means for their products. For this reason, “hypoallergenic” skincare still causes reactions in some individuals. In contrast, Untoxicated is “non-allergenic”: the first skincare to eliminate the ingredients that cause 99%+ of allergic skin reactions - far exceeding any “hypoallergenic” gold standard on the market today.
-
Yes, all Untoxicated products are non-comedogenic. Because they are formulated using only a limited number of ingredients that have been clinically proven not to irritate or inflame skin, they are suitable for all skin types - including combination, oily and acne prone skin.
-
Yes, Untoxicated is fragrance free. We will never use any form of fragrance - including “natural” fragrance and masking fragrance - as these are the most commonly occurring allergens in skincare!
-
Yes, all Untoxicated products are gluten free.
-
We are certified Cruelty- and Animal Test-Free by PETA. We are also Leaping Bunny certified, meaning that we will never test our raw materials or finished products on animals (and will never work with any partners who do).
In addition, our products are all made in the USA, under the most rigorous safety standards. We test our products for safety and efficacy on real (consenting!) humans only.

Sensitive Skin
-
Unfortunately there is no diagnostic test for sensitive skin, but if your skin looks red or inflamed with sensations of tightness, itching and/or burning it’s very likely that you are experiencing sensitivity. (Not-so-fun-fact: 7 out of 10 people report having sensitive skin!)
-
Understanding your skin type is critical, as it is the first step in being able to adequately care for your skin, your body’s largest organ and its protective shield.
In the case of sensitive skin, it means skin that is prone to inflammation. This inflammation - like irritation, redness, itching, burning or stinging - signals that the skin barrier has been compromised.
If left untreated (or improperly treated), a compromised skin barrier can lead to even more severe skin issues such as contact dermatitis and painful eczema flares. Unfortunately, Dr. Smith experienced this repeatedly with his patients at The Cleveland Clinic.
With 7 of 10 people reporting sensitive skin, it’s an issue that impacts the vast majority of us, to varying degrees!
-
Allergens & irritants (such as fragrances, dyes, harsh surfactants, etc.) trigger skin inflammation - and, ultimately, sensitivity. Unfortunately, even the most “sensitive friendly” skincare today often contains numerous inflammation triggers.
Removing these triggers gives skin the greatest chance to repair itself and remain healthy. This is the purpose of Untoxicated!
-
Sensitive skin is genetically predisposed - but can change over time due to various factors such as hormonal shifts, environmental conditions, and lifestyle choices. (Not-so-fun fact: Skin generally becomes more sensitive with age.)
-
Sensitive skin is a skin type - a genetic predisposition that makes skin more prone to inflammation - while skin sensitivity (or sensitized skin) is a temporary reaction by any skin type.
Both sensitive skin and skin sensitivity are triggered by exposure to allergens and irritants in our environment - and can therefore be managed by identifying and avoiding these triggers.
-
Even if we don't have sensitive skin, many of us become sensitized to products after years of being exposed to the allergens and irritants they contain.
Ironically, our skin can sometimes tolerate an irritant or allergen for a prolonged period before becoming sensitive or allergic to it. This is because the immune system gradually becomes “sensitized” to it - and the number of exposures it takes for skin to become sensitized varies among all of us, from a few to several thousand.
Unfortunately, once our skin is sensitized to a particular irritant, the immune system will overreact every time it's exposed - and the only “cure” is completely avoiding contact in the future. -

Our products are the very first to completely eliminate the ingredients that trigger 99%+ of adverse skin reactions - such as irritation, inflammation and sensitivity. This far exceeds any standard that exists within the market for sensitive skincare today.
What’s more: Our MD-created formulas only use ingredients that have been clinically-proven to calm and repair even the most troubled & sensitive skin - without sacrificing product efficacy.
The result: Limited-ingredient products (14 ingredients or less!) that deliver what the skin needs while eliminating what it doesn’t.
